He is the first artist , He is the Greatest artist , He is the only true original aritist.
Art gallery: me, strolling casually along the aisle staring at the pieces with ignorant criticism since none of them seems to make sense. Now, imagine this art gallery as the world, and each of us a canvas by a single artist. But in this setting, each of us fulfils a dual role, as both a canvas and also as me, walking around criticising all the others.
Doesn’t really make sense, does it? And yet somehow, this is still what I find myself doing every day. When I came to this rather uncomfortable realisation, I got to thinking, what is the reason for all this masked animosity? Is it not really that we think we are not the artists favourite canvas, that we try to break down all the others in order to gain greater self-worth, I mean, if only one painting by a truly great artist remains, it would become…

I wake up two weeks ago covered in glitter . My first thought … HUH????
A few things could have happened, either I was sleep walking and fell in a pot of glitter , or someone sprinkled me with glitter while I was sleeping . Neither of which I would have minded. If you know me , you know I absolutely LOVE glitter.
Being 4:30 in the morning I was a little slow with figuring out why I was full of glitter – I pulled the sheets back and found even more glitter. Now I was completely boggled! Where did this glitter come from.
Finally I figured it out. Next to my bed I have a calendar of some of Gustav Klimt’s paintings. On the cover is one of my favorite paintings from him : The Kiss. And on there is glitter! I had picked it up the night before – got glitter all over my bed and rolled around in it the whole night.
Will post some photo’s of the calendar later.
Needless to say , it took me a while to get the glitter off.
cheers for now
“Contemporary Cuisine and fine wine” .. And boy was it
Camping in Nambucca Heads , November 2012. Second day of pouring rain, we are all tired and cold and in serious need of some good R & R.While driving around in Nambucca searching for a place to eat we stumble apon a little restaurant. Menu looks good enough and the Aboriginal art inside draws my attention. So we book a table for three just in case there isnt space for us later that evening.
Later that evening , rain is even worse than before. Feels like we are going to be washed away. I dont think Nambucca Heads has had rain like that all season. We stop at the RSL club before our reservation to have some drinks.
Finally Dinner with Dad and karen. Walking in to Jaaning Tree i immediately knew that i would have a lovely time there , even if the food wasnt great. Each table has a candle in the middle which sets a relaxed ambiance . Only three other tables were occupied , probably because of the bad weather. Every wall has an original Aboriginal painting spread across it , Just reminding you that you are indeed in Australia , not somewhere on a European Riviera.
Our Host arrives to take our Drinks order. We order a bottle of Tatachilla , Reserve Mclaren Vale , Shiraz 2009 ( www.tatachillawinery.com.au/ )
Drinks arrive and the complimentary bread basket with Macadamia oil is set on the table for us to enjoy ( and not starve from hunger )
We order our food , Dad orders the beef : Aabenraa Scotch beef fillet with kipfler potatoes, pumpkin, bok choy and a pepperberry
Karen has the pork : Double braised pork belly with apples, potatoes and an Illawarra plum
And i have the Pasta of the day : Homemade Pasta of the day , Its actually a started but it was more than enough for me. The Blue cheese , cream and saffron compliment each other especially with the veggies of the day.
We waited a while before the food was served , masterpieces take time . Each dish was prepared as if it was a once-in-a-lifetime masterpiece painting. ( Gordon Ramsay would be proud )
Karen said her dish was amazing , something she has never had before .
Dad said that his Beef was a little cold ( because they let it settle ) but other than that it was delicious .
My dish was mind-blowing … I have never had saffron before and it completely surprised me. I also dont usually eat blue cheese ( the ONLY cheese i dont eat ) and so took a big risk when ordering this meal. This meal was heavenly , i just couldnt eat enough of it. I thought it would be too rich because of the blue cheese but it actually was not at all.
Besides the food , the service was excellent as well. Our Host was funny , friendly , quick and helpful.
The evening was a huge success and i will go there again anytime! If you are ever in Nambucca , or even in NSW , do yourself a favour — go to Jaaning Tree!
Finally my table is finished! This painting does not really fit into a specific genre , but then again , none of my paintings do. I started off wanting it very realistic ( not being true to who i am) and then very promtly decided to mix it up a
As you can see i wanted to create the feeling of a drawing that becomes a photo-realistic picture (or visa versa) .
Im so proud of this new master piece.next step is a glass cover for the table.
Who would have thought that a 20 year old Ikea table that was a hideous purple could turn out to be such a beautiful centre piece.
Cheers for now
I have always known about Aboriginal art , the first time i was in Australia i saw some art pieces but never really thought much about it – perhaps because i didnt understand it.
Four years later and im back in Australia and suddenly the Aboriginal art intreges me. Maybe its because i studied art for a while and my need to learn new things. I wanted to find out how a few “simple” dots made such an interesting picture . its not at all the same as abstract art.
Let me explain. Just before i left Australia to come back home , my dad and i drove a few hours out of Sydney just to explore. We found a little art gallery while looking for ice cream. As usual we walked in to admire the art . Except this time we met a lady with an incredible knowledge of the Aboriginal communities and their “art”.
We started talking , mostly because both my father and i love to learn new things and especially things i have no knowledge of whatsoever.
I few day s before we found this little gallery we were at the Sydney Art Museum. We saw an incredible painting from an Aboriginal woman. Unfortunately we are not allowed to take photo’s of these paintings. Anyway we went home and did some research to see if we could find a picture of this incredible painting. What we happended to sumble upon startled us. The painting on the internet was not the same painting.
Back to the gallery : We asked this woman about this and if it could be possible. What we found out was better than a conspiracy theory.
lesson number 1 : The aboriginal people dont make “art” . In the 1970’s the western civilisation decided that the pictures the Aboriginal people were making would be lovely art.
Lesson number 2: The Aboriginal people made the “art” as a form of communication. They dont have a proper written language. They teach the new generation about life > Basically like what we learn at school they teach their kids with dots and colour and line.
Lesson number 3: Each person gets a lesson they need to teach in life . In western terms its their responibility to teach their kids about this specific thing. Let me use myself as an example. My gran would have had a responsibilty to teach my mom about Art for instance . ( this is all in western terms and isnt exactly the same. Im just using this as an example because we can all understand this ) . So when my mom is born she gets that same responsibility to teach her kids about art. When i was born it gets carried over to me.
Lesson number 4: Each tribe has a different way of portraying the same thing. So the way we portray “art” and teach our kids about art is different to the way another tribe might.
Lots to take in i know. For now i willleave you with some examples about this and then next time we can dig a little deeper.
Both of these are the seven sisters : bothe different and both from different tribes.
*please note that the info here is only subject to a few peoples research . Nothing is offical yet. *
Cheers til next time
Cant believe its the end of yet another year. And what a year it was.
Im sitting here thinking about everything that happened this year and it makes me very nostalgic. I’m sure im not the only one who has had a rather tough year .And even though things didnt always go my way it certainly all worked out for the good ( or actually the great ). Not only did it all turn out good but i found healing in all of it.
This year started off terrible , and has become the best of my life so far. Strange how that works. While I’m having a good time now , i have friends who are still going through that terrible time. Luckily , there is always light at the end of the tunnel ( even if that tunnel seems forever away.) I know that one day we will look back at this time and laugh , but for now we just take it step by step.
I am determined to make 2013 even better than 2012. I have learnt so much from 2012 but i know that 2013 will stretch me even further. Which is fine by me.What fun would life be without its ups and downs.
I don’t want to bore you with the details now , it isn’t the time or place. Perhaps some day the opportunity will present itself and i can share my story with you. For now I’m happy with that.
Next year i have so much to share with you and cannot wait to get started. ( maybe i will give you a glimpse of what is to come ) . Not only will i finish the make-over ( which by the way is WAY over due ) , i will also explore the art i ran into overseas.
There will always be something to write about.
( what this space ;P )
What a whirl wind month its been , and I have so much to share ….. If only my internet would play along. It seems like this has been my fate for a long time. Not for much longer though ! I’m going to MTN this weekend to sort it out. My only issue? I don’t have much knowledge about what internet service is best … Wireless , adsl , 3G.????? Help is needed!
For now I am blogging on my phone with limited resources and frustrating myself.
Once everything is back up and running I can start sharing all the amazing and not so amazing things I’ve experienced in the last month.
Cheers for now
i have finished the sanding of the table , perhaps thats not the correct term. It isnt finished , rather i gave up.The paint on this table is stubborn beyond.Let me just tell you what i have tried to get this paint off:
Paint stripper(which by the way is NOT easy ) ,i got it everywhere. And it burns like hot coals.
Sand paper – 60 grit ,100 grit ,50 grit. Its all the same to me
and lastly i tried the electric sand machine. This machine is a beast of a thing.I think im still vibrating.
I decided to just paint over the paint thats left. I went to the shops and found the exact colour i want for the not only the table but the walls too! its called stoney chalk or something in that line. Anyway i have now painted the table and given it the finish i want. I have now started the top of the table. Picture is chosen , lines drawn and paint mixed. Its going to look stunning.
Now i start the big table and chairs. This should be interesting . 🙂
Cheers for now.
I have decided to redo the house , one room at a time though.First thought: eeeek this is going to be freaking expensive.
After doing some research I found that It doesn’t have to be so expensive. There are some things u can do yourself and looking around for that one place that can do something for you at a cheaper price is also a plus.
I have started by putting an idea board together. All my ideas , a budget , what to get , phone numbers , etc, are on this board. Its always a great idea to know exactly what you want before you start. That way there is less of a chance that everything goes up in smoke ( or flames if you really messed up ).
What to have on this board :
Colour scheme ( Very very important )
What needs to change ( curtains , rugs ,etc )
Sample of material if you are re – upholstering.
Calculations of how much paint , material , etc you need.
Measurements of room.
Numbers of the suppliers and businesses that are going to help.
Time frame of your project.
So today I’m going to start with my little project . I’m re doing the coffee table. I have got the sand it down repaint and re varnish.
I’m rushing to the shops now to get everything.once I’ve started I will poast more pics .
Cheers for now
I have recently been involved in a few photo shoots. Something i always wanted to do but never thought i would get a chance to do. I was suddenly plunged into a sea of newness. I was asked by a friend to style a wedding shoot for her. Well , let me tell you something , if you are planning to get married i salute you. My friend and i planned and re planned a wedding in less than a week. I actually think we re planned the re plan . If i didnt just confuse you i certainly confused myself.
Anyway , a lot of research went into that shoot and many many hours of work and some serious foot work certainly helped. While researching new wedding fashion i noticed some same old same old , but i noticed something fresh. Now i know that this specific new trend isnt all THAT new. But its taken South Africa by storm.
This new trend – COLOUR.
Everything these days is in beautiful BOLD colour. Its fashion now to wear a green pair of jeans with an orange t-shirt and Pink jacket. Go in to any store and the first thing you will see is colour. Its no longer about matching items. The more the contrast the better the outfit. It often reminds me of Piet Mondrian. The only difference in my mind is that Mondrian only used primary colours ( blue , red , yellow ) . He had a obession with those colours and wanted his paintings to be as simple as possible. To go back to the beginning , you could say , when colour was art.
I recently had a birthday and my awesome friend bought me the coolest shoes. Although i have no idea how to walk in them i WILL wear them and find a good reason to show them off. They remind me of my very own Mondrian painting.
Friends and family have always known me as the one with the brightest eyeshadow , brightest shoes and brightest clothes. I must say i sometimes cringe when i think back at what i used to wear. I suppose my artist self would come out , i just didnt know how to tame that side of me. Unfortunately i have always been before my time and just as i am taming my artist self … the rest of the world catches up with the colour trend.
Maybe i will hold off on that taming …
race you to the nearest store!
Be brave , go bold.
